"SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM" PRESENTS JOHN AND CATHY CADLEY

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to my Songwriter’s Notes, Lyrics, and Music.

On Thursday, 11/6, John and Cathy Cadley will be our performers in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. I hope this little description from their web site entices you to come to their show!

“John and Cathy Cadley are one of the area’s most entertaining and popular duos. Following in the tradition of great male-female duets like Ian & Sylvia and Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, they show how the simplicity of two voices and two acoustic instruments can produce powerful music.
Their repertoire draws on the traditional bluegrass of Bill Monroe and the Stanley Brothers, the tight harmonies of the Louvin Brothers, the “new acoustic” sounds of Alison Krauss and Claire Lynch, and John’s own originals, which have been recorded by national bluegrass artists such as Tony Trischka, Jim Hurst, Missy Raines, and Lou Reid, who, with Vince Gill and Ricky Skaggs singing harmony, took John’s song, “Time,” to the #1 spot on the national bluegrass charts for three consecutive months. Cathy’s resume is equally impressive, including 21 years leading a church and gospel group in her hometown of Fayetteville, NY.
Their live concerts feature everything from traditional mountain ballads and bluegrass classics like “Bury Me Beneath the Willow” and “Blue and Lonesome,” to Alison Krauss’ “The Lucky One,” to the Louvin Brother’s “Cash on the Barrelhead.” And just to add a few surprises, you’ll also hear a great acoustic rendition of Paul McCartney’s “I Will,” a few of John’s originals from his Nashville-produced solo CD, The Closer I Get, and Cathy’s knockout version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” For an evening of soulful duet singing and tasty picking on guitar and mandolin, the Cadleys are not to me missed.”

To give you a feel of John and Cathy’s style, here is a video of them doing John’s number one song, "Time." To learn more about John and Cathy, you can check them out right here. Hope you can join us for this show!

The concert is free, but we do ask for donations to support our performers. Siobhan has created two CDs, one for each of our two seasons. Each CD contains songs of the performers who appeared during that season. The requested donation for each CD is $10, and the proceeds go to the performers who are playing on the night of the donation. The CDs have gotten good reviews, and we hope they get passed around to let others know about the great talent we have appearing at this venue.

The concerts take place on the first and third Thursdays of each month in the side room of Buffalo Bill’s Family Restaurant and Taproom (19 Main Street, Shortsville, NY). The show runs from 7 to 9 PM. To learn more about Buffalo Bill’s, check out their site right here:

"SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM" PRESENTS RICK HOYT AND COOL CLUB

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to my Songwriter’s Notes, Lyrics, and Music.

On Thursday, 10/16, Rick Hoyt will be our performer in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. He will be accompanied by two members of the Rick Hoyt Quintet, Perry Cleaveland and Doug Henry. Rick delivers his lyrics in a style that may best be described as a rocking jump jazz blues mixed with some boogie-woogie ragtime swing. Rick’s guitar playing is second to none, and when he gets together with Perry Cleaveland (mandolin and fiddle) and Doug Henry (standup bass), it’s an explosion of great high energy music. Perry and Doug, who are well-known in the bluegrass arena, seem to adapt to Rick’s original material with ease.

In Rick’s first show in the “Side Room,” almost two years ago, he had Tom McClure and Oscar Yuan accompanying him. To give you a feel of Rick’s style and the energy his music generates, here is a video from that Performance. "I Can’t Be Any Better Than I Am," one of Rick’s songs, serves as an excellent example of what to expect if you come to this concert. Hope you can join us for this show

The concert is free, but we do ask for donations to support our performers. Siobhan has created two CDs, one for each of our two seasons. Tom Whitmore was our guest on October 2. To give you a feel of the setting of these concerts, here is a video of Tom doing one of his songs, "The Truth."

MEYER AND MCGUIRE: NEWS AND MUSIC SCHEDULE

Hi,

Hope all of you are doing well! Here’s what I have for you this month.

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to my Songwriter’s Notes, Lyrics, and Music.

Our Open mic on September 12 at Brew and Brats at Arbor Hill, an eatery and entertainment center behind the Arbor Hill Winery & Grapery was memorable! We’d like to thank Jack Jones, Kendall Paul Wilt, Fran Cary, Duncan Walls, and Jimmy Gleason for contributing some great tunes to make the night a splendid one! Our next regular show at Brew and Brats will be on October 11. The “Mando Master,” Perry Cleaveland, will be joining us for this show with his mandolin and fiddle. Details for this show are at the end of this message. Whether we are running an open mic or playing a regular show, Brew and Brats is always a good time! Hope you can Join Siobhan, Perry, and me on October 11!

As always, thanks for supporting original music! The “Singer/Songwriter in the Side Room” series at Buffalo Bill’s is going well, and we have moved to two shows a month, the first and third Thursdays. Since my last general update, we have had two shows in the “Side Room,” Marc Black on September 18 and Tom Whitmore on October 1. Below is a video from each show:
Marc Black
”When the Earth Was Big”
Tom Whitmore
”The Truth”
Rick Hoyt, Perry Cleaveland, and Doug Henry will be our guest on October 16, and Cathy and John Cadley will be our guests on Nov. 6. Stay tuned for more details about these shows in my upcoming post. Hope you can join us for these shows!

For those of you who follow us at Rio Tomatlan, we’d like to give you an update. Rio sustained a fire in late May. The restaurant suffered a great deal of damage, and Rio will be reopening at its new location in Canandaigua at 106 Bemix Street, the previous site of the Lumber Yard. Before Rio reopens, however, the old Lumber Yard will need some major renovation, and the new Rio will most likely not open until this fall. Back on August 10, Siobhan, Perry Cleaveland, and I played at a benefit to help the workers at Rio Tomatlan. Buffalo Bill’s offered its restaurant as a location for the benefit. Well, it was a grand time and very successful! Rafael Guevara, the owner, hopes to reopen Rio Tomatlan sometime in November. Stay tuned for another update in early November!

For those of you who like traditional Irish music, here is a little heads-up regarding a great little happening every Sunday Afternoon in Rochester. From Noon to …, John Michael Ryan conducts a traditional session around one of the tables at Sheridan’s Pub. Sometime in the early evening, the session turns into an Americana session. Whether you are a player or a listener, it’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon or evening. Siobhan and I catch the sessions whenever we can, and it’s always a good time! Check it out if you get a chance! You won’t be disappointed!

Well, have to go for now. Below is a list of some of our upcoming dates. Hope to catch you at a show! Take care!

All the best,
Siobhan and Frank
