SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS GORDON MUNDING WITH JOHN AND JOE DADY

Hey Folks,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to mySongwriter Notes.

If you want to listen to me and my partner, Siobhan, Practicing, here is a link to ”When You Were Cute And I Had All My Hair,” an original song on my YouTube channel.

(This show, originally scheduled for 12/15/16, was postponed to 1/5/17 because of a nasty snow storm on 12/15.)
On Thursday, 1/5, Gordon Munding will be our guests in the Side room at Buffalo Bill’s. About a month ago, Gordon was John Dady’s guest in John’s Side Room show, and this month Gordon reciprocated by asking John to join him. To add a little more flavor to last month’s awesome show, Gordon also asked Joe Dady, another 10th Ward legend, to join the group. These three old buddies from Rochester’s 10th Ward are coming together to present their terrific original songs in a folk, country, blues, and bluegrass style. Once again, there’s going to be some great singing and picking in the Side Room this Thursday, especially with Joe Dady being added to the mix. Rather than telling you more about these three old friends, here are some videos of them doing solo shows in the Side Room:
”Down Home Woman,” Gordon Munding
”Light the Fire,” Gordon Munding
”She Said She Loved Me Once But She Don’t know More,” Gordon Munding
”Friends,” John Dady
”Mind to Move,” John Dady
”You Bring Out the Peace in Me,” John Dady
”My Conesus Cabin Home,” Joe Dady

The concert is free, but we do ask for donations to support our performers. Siobhan has created four CDs, one for each of our four seasons. Each CD contains songs of the performers who appeared during that season. The requested donation for each CD is $10, and the proceeds go to the performers who are playing on the night of the donation. The CDs have gotten good reviews, and we hope they get passed around to let others know about the great talent we have appearing at this venue.

The concerts take place on the first and third Thursdays of every month in the side room of Buffalo Bill’s Family Restaurant and Taproom, 19 Main Street, Shortsville, NY. The show runs from 7 to 9 PM. To learn more about Buffalo Bill’s, check out their site right here:

SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS PAULSEN AND BAKER WITH GUEST TIM CHAAPEL

On Thursday, 9/8, John Paulsen and Keith Baker and Tim Chaapel will be our guests in the Side room at Buffalo Bill’s. Paulsen and Baker have been bringing good times to music listeners for over four decades with their folk, country, bluegrass, rock, and Americana music. Most of the time they did this with John Garvey on bass as the renowned Paulsen Baker and Garvey. Since Garvey’s retirement from the band, Tim Chaapel, a little shorter in stature, now keeps the group together with a fine sound on his standup bass. Although Paulsen and Baker are primarily known for their great renditions of four decades of classic covers, they have sprinkled their recordings and shows with some terrific original music. They’ll be playing these original songs in the Side Room this Thursday, and it’s going to be a real treat. You don’t want to miss it! SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS THE HEALING COMMITTEE (ALAN WHITNEY, TIM PITCHER, KATHRYN KOCH)

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "Blue Highways," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 6/2, The Healing Committee (Alan Whitney, Tim Pitcher, Kathryn Koch) will perform in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. This Buffalo based group comes with very impressive credentials. Here is some information I extracted from The Healing Committee’s web site. Hope it entices you to come to the show!

“The Healing Committee with Alan Whitney, Kathryn Koch and Tim Pitcher

Western N.Y. singer-songwriter, guitarist, and recording artist Alan ‘ADub’ Whitney writes songs about guys who steal Cadillacs and have rope burns on their hands from holdin’ on too long. ADub rocks his own rhythm and soul Americana music. Early on, he worked as a singer-songwriter in Los Angeles and Nashville. Developing his music in legendary venues like The Troubadour and The Palomino on bills with such luminary Americana artists as Alison Krauss, Jim Lauderdale, Lucinda Williams and Dave Alvin has provided him a deep life experience upon which to draw. Notably, he was honored to perform a living room concert for Motown legend, ‘Smokie’ Robinson. With some choice writing credits and several albums under his belt, now living in Buffalo N.Y., Alan 'ADub' Whitney is working on a new album in Nashville and performing live with his latest project, ADub, Timmy P, and Kathryn Koch, The Healing Committee.

Western N.Y singer-songwriter, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist Timmy P. Pitcher is a third generation dance band musician who grew up playing in his Dad’s bluegrass band, backing his country songwriting Uncle Roj and performing his own electric rock music. Timmy P.’s deep pocket rhythm playing and lightning fast bluegrass flat picking, has put him on festival stages with Red Headed Step Child, Sanduleak, Victor Wooten, David Grisman, Sam Bush, Andre Foxxe Williams, and Keller Williams. Timmy P. is also the man who will slide under a Winnebago on a rainy Kentucky morning and beat the starter with vice grips until the band is once again moving forward.”

Unfortunately, The Healing Committee FB Web Site failed to include any bio on Kathryn Koch, probably because she is the strongest member of the group, and you know how guys hate to be upstaged (just kidding). The truth is Kathryn is in a witness protection program, and we can’t reveal any information about her. With that said, after listening to some of ADub and Timmy’s arrangements, I am sure Kathryn will only make the music stronger than it already is, and if they choose to return, I will definitely have a bio for Kathryn next time.

Below are some links to give you more information about The Healing Committee and their music:

SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS JEFF RIALES WITH MIKE WITTEK AND DANA FINE

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "Your Local Star," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 5/19, Jeff Riales will be our performer in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. He is a terrific country songwriter, one of Rochester’s finest. Jeff, an impressive guitar player, will have Mike Wittek (mandolin and guitar) and Dana Fine (bass), members of Jeff’s band, The Silvertone Express, backing him up. Here is some information I extracted from Jeff’s web site. Hope it entices you to come to the show!

“Born in Memphis, TN, Jeff Riales has been writing and performing music for most of his life, and his style on the guitar and piano are as unique as the songs he creates. Jeff has performed as the opening act for John Hiatt, Chris Smither, Delbert McClinton and more. His songs are played on local, national and international radio and available on TouchTunes digital jukeboxes.

Jeff has released four albums (the first two recorded at Dynamic Recording Studio, Rochester, NY). The first, Load Full of Memories (with the group Backwater) debuted in 1999, followed by Right Rear Wheel (a solo project) in 2003. Jeff’s third recording, The Ticket, came out in 2008; his last album, Paved With Gold, was released in July 2010 (both recorded at Virgil Records, Rochester, NY). The title song from The Ticket was awarded 2008 Best Country Song by the Upstate New York Songwriting Competition, and The Ticket was recognized as 2008 Local Album of the Year by Democrat & Chronicle music critic, Jeff Spevak.

“Local Album of the Year. Sporting the baritone of Johnny Cash, the burnished tone of Waylon Jennings and the wit of John Prine…There’s not a cliché in the house, and not a clunker on The Ticket.” - Jeff Spevak, Democrat & Chronicle (2008)

“Riales is a true wordsmith, crafting songs filled with descriptions of everyday life, and beyond.” - Michelle Picardo, Freetime Magazine (2008)

“Jeff Riales drenches his new CD “The Ticket” with a Waylon creaminess and well-worn wisdom long forgotten in Nashville…This is a solid record from a righteous singer whose music is as lusty and earthy as upstate New York is far from Beulah Land.” - Frank De Blase, City News (2008)

“Jeff Riales…has emerged as the finest traditional country singer-songwriter in Rochester.” - Jeff Spevak, Democrat & Chronicle (2008)

“Riales’ music contains a lot of Southern country, soul, gospel and blues…They are all small tales of big people with unique lives that Riales has managed to capture with deep feelings and great wit. The fact that he’s one fine guitar player doesn’t hurt, either” - Duncan Walls, The Naples Record (2008)

“[Backwater’s] forte is Waylon Jennings-Hank Williams Jr. style country boogie…a distinctive style and…memorable songs.” - Sing Out! Magazine (1999)

“His music is rooted in red clay and the type of sentimentality that can’t be faked. Riales’ music gets in your blood and grooves and swings...[Right Rear Wheel] is one beautiful record. I could listen to this guy for hours.” - Frank De Blase, City News (2003)”

Here is a video of Jeff doing one of his songs, “The Ticket.”

SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS SCOTT REGAN WITH GUEST PERRY CLEAVELAND

Hi,

On Thursday, 5/5, Scott Regan will be our performer in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. If you don’t know him, here’s a bit of info I snatched from the web. Hope it entices you to come to the show!
“Since 2004 Scott Regan has been introducing listeners to an eclectic mix of rock, folk, and acoustic music weekdays on Open Tunings. A fan of all kinds of music and strong supporter of the local music scene, Scott often invites local musicians and bands traveling through Rochester and the Finger Lakes area in studio to perform and share stories about their work. In 2012 Open Tunings was voted best radio program by Rochester’s City Newspaper.
Scott is also a musician and released his first solo album Autumn Moon in 2013. He is a member of Watkins and the Rapiers, an Americana music band with a folk beat. They mostly play original music written by the band’s four songwriters – of which Scott is one. In the band Scott plays guitar and percussion, and sings. He’s also an artist and recently released a book of sketches and haiku with friend Jeff Spevak of the Democrat and Chronicle called Jazz Lines.”

Perry Cleaveland, also known as the “House Band” in the “Side Room,” will be backing up Scott with some mandolin and fiddle.

Want a feel for how these two will sound together? Here is a video of them doing one of Scott’s songs, “Blue Blue Planet.”

SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS PAUL SWIATEK AND PERRY CLEAVELAND

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "Saturday Morning," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 4/21, Paul Swiatek and Perry Cleaveland will be our performers in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. If you don’t know either of these guys, here’s a bit of info I snatched from the web.
Paul:
“I have been playing music since I was in elementary school. Singing, banjo and guitar playing helped me earn money for college. Music is one of the great joys in life that we are able to experience. With a little know how and practice, you can participate in this lifelong creative way of life. Check out my menu of services that lists the instruments and topics that I teach

1) DISMANTLING THE "I CAN'T PLAY AN INSTRUMENT" BELIEF SYSTEM VIA THE MOUNTAIN DULCIMER- I love working with children and adults who believe that they are not "musical" or "talented". If you sit down with one of my mountain dulcimers, I promise that you will be playing a song and smiling within fifteen minutes. There are many people who have been taught negative, restrictive beliefs that have kept them from even trying to play an instrument. If you are one of these people, I invite you to contact me and move past this mental lock. Music is for everyone, no exceptions!
2) HOW TO PLAY THE ACOUSTIC FOLK GUITAR
3) HOW TO PLAY BLUEGRASS STYLE GUITAR

SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS LOREN BARRIGAR

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "Boogie Woogie Therapy," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 4/14, Loren Barrigar will be our performer in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. I hope this little description from his web site entices you to come to his show!

“Loren Barrigar
Loren started playing guitar when he was only four years old, and by the time he was six, he played the Chet Atkins hit “Yackety Axe” in front of thousands of country music fans at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He went on to study with Jimmy Atkins (Chet’s brother), which led to a touring career with his family band from Nashville to Las Vegas.
Since settling in Central New York, he has been in constant demand as a studio musician and recently produced and played on the #1 rated CD in Syracuse, Dusty Pas’cal’s “Home” (2007). His finely-honed songwriting skills have launched his melodies on NBC’s hit show “ER”, The Young and the Restless, and on a Christmas CD with BB King and Patti Labelle. He has recently performed with
some of the best acoustic players in the world including Steven Bennett, Richard Smith, John Knowles, Muriel Anderson, and Loren’s friend and mentor Tommy Emmanuel, the Australian guitar sensation. He has also recorded with Multiple Grammy winner and legendary producer Lloyd Maines.

For the last few years, Loren has been working on finger style guitar. His 2008 album “Dance with Me” is a result of that work, and it received a Syracuse Area Music Award for Best Country Album of 2009. He has been touring in support of his latest CD "Chillaxin" {2009] His solo concerts include favorite songs from 7 decades as well as his own original songs, all featuring exciting guitar work and memorable vocal stylings.”

To give you a feel of Loren’s style, here is a video of him playing "Juice," one of his original songs. To learn more about Loren and his partner, Mark Mazengard, you can check them out right here. Hope you can join us for this show!

SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS JOHN AND CATHY CADLEY WITH PERRY CLEAVELAND AND JOHN DANKS

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "Cool Hand Tuite," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 4/7, John and Cathy Cadley and their guest Perry Cleaveland and John Danks will be our performers in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. I hope this little description from their web site entices you to come to their show!

“John and Cathy Cadley are one of the area’s most entertaining and popular duos. Following in the tradition of great male-female duets like Ian & Sylvia and Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, they show how the simplicity of two voices and two acoustic instruments can produce powerful music.
Their repertoire draws on the traditional bluegrass of Bill Monroe and the Stanley Brothers, the tight harmonies of the Louvin Brothers, the “new acoustic” sounds of Alison Krauss and Claire Lynch, and John’s own originals, which have been recorded by national bluegrass artists such as Tony Trischka, Jim Hurst, Missy Raines, and Lou Reid, who, with Vince Gill and Ricky Skaggs singing harmony, took John’s song, “Time,” to the #1 spot on the national bluegrass charts for three consecutive months. Cathy’s resume is equally impressive, including 21 years leading a church and gospel group in her hometown of Fayetteville, NY.
Their live concerts feature everything from traditional mountain ballads and bluegrass classics like “Bury Me Beneath the Willow” and “Blue and Lonesome,” to Alison Krauss’ “The Lucky One,” to the Louvin Brother’s “Cash on the Barrelhead.” And just to add a few surprises, you’ll also hear a great acoustic rendition of Paul McCartney’s “I Will,” a few of John’s originals from his Nashville-produced solo CD, The Closer I Get, and Cathy’s knockout version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” For an evening of soulful duet singing and tasty picking on guitar and mandolin, the Cadleys are not to me missed.”

To give you a feel of John and Cathy’s style, here is a video of them doing "Don’t You Never Trust a Woman If She Don’t Like Dogs," a song from John’s latest CD, the Hard Years. To learn more about John and Cathy, you can check them out right here. Hope you can join us for this show!

SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS BRIAN AYERS

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "Ridin’ Down the Back Roads," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 3/3, Brian Ayers will be our performer in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. If you don’t know much about this renowned singer/songwriter from the Rochester/Finger Lakes Region, here’s some info I snatched from the web about Brian’s group, Blue Jimmy. Currently, the group is taking a little hiatus from performing. Brian is the lead singer, and this bio of the group should give you a good feel for Brian’s dedication to the craft. Hope it entices you to come to the show!

“Growing up and still based in the small town of Bloomfield, New York (just southeast of Rochester, New York), the five members of Blue Jimmy are comprised of two sets of brothers and a lifelong best friend. Brian Ayers (acoustic guitar, harmonica, lead vocals), Chad Ayers (electric guitar, mandolin, harmony vocals), Steve Nelson (drums), Mike Nelson (bass guitar), and Greg Gefell (electric guitar, pedal steel, resonator, harmony vocals). All spent time in the music program at Bloomfield Central, where the seeds of theory were planted and the bricks of friendship laid at a young age. In addition to writing, recording, engineering, mixing and producing their own music, Greg, Chad and Steve all play instruments they made themselves. Steve is president of his own company, which builds custom drum kits. Chad made one of the guitars he plays and Greg plays a pedal steel that he built from scratch. Lending an even more down home and unique sound to the group. It is no wonder that they create their music the same way. Crafting songs from a solid heartfelt foundation, technically sound and artistically free, winning the listener over time and time again.
It is with this twenty-plus year bond in life, musical pursuits and friendship that Blue Jimmy has built a loyal regional following. Landing them supporting act slots and praise from such national touring artists as: Travis Tritt, Billy Currington, Steve Holy, Kenny Rogers, Pure Prairie League and many others. Further accolades include airplay and in-studio performances on many of Rochester, New York’s major radio stations. 92.5 WBEE FM, 96.5 WCMF FM, 98.9 WBZA FM, as well as airplay in Syracuse, New York.”

If you want a feel for Brian’s sound, check out these videos from a previous show in the Side Room:

SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS THE MARIA GILLARD TRIO

On Thursday, 2/25, Maria Gillard, Perry Cleaveland, and Elaine Verstraete will be our performers in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. This engaging trio opens every Side Room concert series, and this year they are starting Season #5 for us. If you don’t know them, here’s some info I snatched from the web. Hope it entices you to come to the show!

“Maria Gillard is a talented singer, songwriter, and educator from the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Best known as a folk musician, she has grown to embrace a wider style range including jazz, swing, and blues. She leads the Maria Gillard Band, a four-piece Rochester-based swing/jazz band. She is also revered in folk and bluegrass circles, often toting a mandolin and singing impeccable harmonies.
Her compelling voice draws you into her lyrics which, when combined with memorable melodies, head straight for the heart. Maria’s songs offer wise, humorous, and sometimes painful observations on life and relationships. She tells stories through her music in ways that are soul stirring, evocative, contagious, lively and energizing. When you listen to Maria’s songs, you feel her heartache and, more often, her joy and delight at life’s experience. She has a warm, inviting, natural flair, which leaves audiences wanting more and coming back!
As an educator, Maria received a bachelor’s degree in Music from SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music. She is a music instructor and directs a vocal jazz ensemble at Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, New York. She has worked for the Aesthetic Education Institute as a teaching artist, given concerts and held workshops in schools and nursing homes for many years. She teaches private voice, piano and guitar lessons in her home and has toured as a folk musician throughout the northeast

Elaine (Eva) Verstraete Bassist and lead/tenor vocalist is a fast study. Eva draws from a wonderful musical experience with Lisa Bigwood and The Washday Band and is currently a member of Eva and the Dog Boys and one half of regional recording artists , birds-on-a-wire, with her close friend, Brooke Pevear.”
