THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS WARREN PAUL

Hey Folks,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to mySongwriter Notes.

On Thursday, 4/5, Warren Paul will be our guest in the Side room at Buffalo Bill’s. Warren has been around the Rochester scene for quite some time, and he is one of its finest singer/songwriters. Take a look at the videos listed below, and you’ll see what I mean!
”A Pokey Moonshine Night”
”Adirondack Shack”
”Family Dollar”
”The Barbeque Café Jingle”
”The Journey”

The concert is free, but we do ask for donations to support our performers. Siobhan has created six CDs, one for each of our six seasons. Each CD contains songs of the performers who appeared during that season. The requested donation for each CD is $10, and the proceeds go to the performers who are playing on the night of the donation. The CDs have gotten good reviews, and we hope they get passed around to let others know about the great talent we have appearing at this venue.

The concerts take place on the first and third Thursdays of every month in the side room of Buffalo Bill’s Family Restaurant and Taproom, 19 Main Street, Shortsville, NY. The show runs from 7 to 9 PM. To learn more about Buffalo Bill’s, check out their site right here:

WEEKLY UPDATE FOR OUR MUSIC FANS

It’s time for Sunday reflection! My song, “Caught in the Middle,” suggests music, regardless of the nature of the venue, have value because in some way it opens the hearts and souls of people. Whether a musician is giving a concert or just playing a happy hour, the potential for connection is always there. (You can read more about the development of “Caught in the Middle” and look at the lyrics right here, "Caught in the Middle".)
Anyway, this past Friday, while Siobhan and I were playing our monthly happy hour at Rylie J’s, the theme of “Caught in the Middle” made its appearance. As always, we had a blast playing our tunes for the Rylie j’s happy hour. Throughout the evening, we received an occasional applause and several thumbs up, etc., the usual response for a happy hour. At the end of the evening, when we were getting ready to sit down and sip our traditional evening ending bourbon, we met Luis. He was putting some money into our tip bucket. When he saw we had some CDs, he bought some and asked if he could buy us a drink. As we sat sipping our bourbon and chatting with Luis, he told us how much he was taken with our music. A Connection was made without us even realizing it. His reference to specific lyrics convinced me he was listening very carefully. So, to all my music colleagues, especially the younger ones, don’t underestimate the power of your music. Whether it’s a concert or happy hour, just get out there and play your tunes and let the chips fall where they may. They’re listening, and you’ll be amazed with the number of connections you are making. Thanks to Pat and Amy McGhan for letting us hang out and play our tunes at their place, and thanks to all who were at Rylie J’s to support our music! Have a great week!
