Meyer and McGuire: News and Music Schedule

Hi,

I am not starting this post with a comment about the weather anymore. If I don’t, maybe it will get better. Hope all of you are doing well!

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to Frank’s Songwriter’s Notes, Lyrics, and Music.

Our third open mic on March 22 at Brew and Brats at Arbor Hill, an eatery and entertainment center behind the Arbor Hill Winery & Grapery, was another great time! We are going to do it again this month on April 12, and the time and address for this event can be found on our music schedule listed at the end of this message. Last month we had some great performances given by Ron Reals, Sawmill Express (Dan Godwin and Jeremy), Brian Blankenberg, Bob Dugan, Zuk (that’s what was on the signup sheet),Rick Constantino, and the unforgettable Joe Preston. Although the players were great, the highlight of the evening for Siobhan was watching Clay Pennise, the toddler of Lindsay and Dan Pennise tear up the dance floor! In April, Siobhan and I will be there again to run the sound. Of course, we will fill in the down-time with our music, but we hope to see many of you show up with your guitars, banjos, mandolins, fiddles, harmonicas, etc. We really enjoy doing what we can to get others out there to play their music! You can perform as a solo, and if you want some backup, we’ll find it for you. If you are not a player, come out and enjoy the food, beverages, and entertainment! Hope to see you there!

As always, thanks for supporting original music! Jim Clare, Perry Cleaveland, and Bob Schneider put on a great show at the “Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room” concert in March. Bob was an unexpected guest, and with his dobro he really added some nice licks to the sound. Siobhan will have a video of one of Jim’s songs from that show ready for my next update in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I just want to give you a little introduction to Scott Regan, the songwriter who will be performing at the next concert at Buffalo Bill’s. Siobhan and I first met Scott about two years ago through our good friend, Maria Gillard. In October of 2012, Scott did a show for us, and we are having him back again because it was so well received. When Scott is not out there doing his solo gigs, he plays with the well-known Watkins and the Rapiers, a great Rochester based band who has an uncanny ability to be irreverent in a classy way. If you haven’t met Scott, you may have heard him on the radio. He is the voice of Open Tunings, a show that runs from 9 AM to Noon from Monday through Friday on WRUR 88.5. You can check it out right here on the internet! For this show at Buffalo Bill’s, Scott will have Perry Cleaveland (mandolin and fiddle) joining him. Perry, who can play with anyone, has been a great help to “Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room,” and we really appreciate his contribution to the series! He, like Scott, is a down-to-earth guy who really knows how to have fun with an audience. Sitting and talking with either Scott or Perry over a couple of beers would be a great way to spend an evening. I’ll have more details about Scott as we get closer to the show, but if you have the time, check out these videos of Scott doing some of his original material.

"Blue Blue Planet"
Now, if you want to know more about Scott and his interesting, creative endeavors, here is a link to his web site. Hope you can join us for the show!

Well, have to go for now. Below is a list of our dates for April. Hope to catch you at a show! Take care!

All the best,
Siobhan and Frank
