MEYER AND MCGUIRE: NEWS AND MUSIC SCHEDULE

Hi,

Hope all of you are doing well! Here’s what I have for you this month.

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to my Songwriter’s Notes, Lyrics, and Music.

Our last show on August 9 at Brew and Brats at Arbor Hill, an eatery and entertainment center behind the Arbor Hill Winery & Grapery was another great time! We’d like to thank Skip Buck for joining us on stage with some great backup harmonies! Unfortunately, Joe and Amy Preston, two great workers at Brew and Brats, have moved on to open My Buddy Joe’s, a store specializing in distributing beverages and snacks. Joe often closed out the evening with us at Brew and Brats with his harmonica, and we will miss him very much! My Buddy Joe’s grand opening is on October 3! So, mark your calendar! Our next regular show at Brew and Brats will be on October 25. In the meantime, we will be doing an open mic at Brew and Brats on September 12. Details for this show are at the end of this message. Whether we are running an open mic or playing a regular show, Brew and Brats is always a good time! Hope you can Join Siobhan and me on September 12!

As always, thanks for supporting original music! Steve Piper put on a great show at the “Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room” concert in August. Siobhan will have a video of one of Steve’s songs from that show ready for my next update in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I just want to give you a little introduction to Marc Black, the songwriter who will be performing at the next concert at Buffalo Bill’s on September 18. Here is a little excerpt from Marc’s biography: “Marc Black is an eclectic folk-rocker who deals with life, and all its social and political challenges…one song at a time. Noted for his “timeless songs, deep grooves and excellent playing”, Marc was inducted into the New York Chapter of the Blues Hall of Fame in June of 2014.
He’s performed and recorded with many luminaries including Art Garfunkel and Rick Danko Richie Havens and Taj Mahal. Levon Helm also invited Marc to play one of the Midnight Rambles. Marc was recently named Folk Artist of the Year on ABC Radio, a winner at the Kerrville Folk Festival and he was chosen to perform with Pete Seeger at the Folk Music Hall of Fame fundraiser last November. As legendary folk artist, Happy Traum, put it, ‘Marc is a master…spreading the joy of music with story and song.’”

Here is a video of Marc doing “Ooh I Love My Coffee.”
Here is a video of Marc doing “I Love You Rachel Maddow.”

For those of you who follow us at Rio Tomatlan, we’d like to give you an update. Rio sustained a fire in late May. The restaurant suffered a great deal of damage, and Rio will be reopening at its new location in Canandaigua at 106 Bemix Street, the previous site of the Lumber Yard. Before Rio reopens, however, the old Lumber Yard will need some major renovation, and the new Rio will most likely not open until this fall. Back on August 10, Siobhan, Perry Cleaveland, and I played at a benefit to help the workers at Rio Tomatlan. Buffalo Bill’s offered its restaurant as a location for the benefit. Well, it was a grand time and very successful! Rafael Guevara, the owner, hopes to reopen Rio Tomatlan sometime in October. Stay tuned for another update in early October!

For those of you who like traditional Irish music, here is a little heads-up regarding a great little happening every Sunday Afternoon in Rochester. From Noon to …, John Michael Ryan conducts a traditional session around one of the tables at Sheridan’s Pub. Sometime in the early evening, the session turns into an Americana session. Whether you are a player or a listener, it’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon or evening. Siobhan and I catch the sessions whenever we can, and it’s always a good time! Check it out if you get a chance! You won’t be disappointed!

Well, have to go for now. Below is a list of some of our upcoming dates. Hope to catch you at a show! Take care!

All the best,
Siobhan and Frank
