"Singer/Songwriters in the Side room" Presents Bonnie Abrams and Allen Hopkins

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to my Songwriter’s Notes, Lyrics, and Music.

On Thursday, 6/19, Bonnie Abrams and Allen Hopkins will be our performers in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. Bonnie writes and performs her own songs AND she sings everything from choral music to Broadway show tunes. As "Voice of the Second Generation", Bonnie has performed programs of song and narration from the European Jewish experience at multi-cultural celebrations and Holocaust Commemorations. With Allen Hopkins, who has played bluegrass, blues, Celtic music, and even Stephen Foster ballads on his three dozen acoustic instruments, Bonnie’s versatility is complete. Time spent with Bonnie and Allen is a musical gift. The audience will laugh, clap, sing along, and maybe Even shed a tear.

The concert is free, but we do ask for donations to support our performers. Siobhan has created two CDs, one for each of our two seasons. Each CD contains songs of the performers who appeared during that season. The requested donation for each CD is $10, and the proceeds go to the performers who are playing on the night of the donation. The CDs have gotten good reviews, and we hope they get passed around to let others know about the great talent we have appearing at this venue.

The concert takes place on the third Thursday of every month in the side room of Buffalo Bill’s Family Restaurant and Taproom, 19 Main Street, Shortsville, NY. The show runs from 7 to 9 PM. To learn more about Buffalo Bill’s, check out their site right here:

Connie Deming was our guest in May. To give you a feel of the setting of these concerts, here is a video of Connie doing one of her songs, "Sweet Dancers of the Little Cafe."

If you would like to see videos of the other performers who have taken the stage at “Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room” concerts, check out this link:

Siobhan and Frank

Meyer and McGuire: News and Music Schedule

Hi,

Hope all of you are doing well! Here’s what I have for you this month.

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to my Songwriter’s Notes, Lyrics, and Music.

Our last open mic on May 10 at Brew and Brats at Arbor Hill, an eatery and entertainment center behind the Arbor Hill Winery & Grapery was another great time! We are going to do it again in July. Details for this open mic will appear in next month’s music update. Last month we had some terrific performances given by Bob Dugan, Steve Garfield, Bob Mincer, and the amazing Joe Preston. Although all the players were very good, the highlight of the evening for Siobhan and me was getting our good friend, Bob Mincer, to play slide whistle with us to “King of the Road,” a classic Roger Miller tune. Bob was there with his wife, Pat, and their friends, and we really enjoyed playing all of Pat’s favorite tunes. In June, Siobhan and I will be there again. This time, however, we will be doing a regular show with our good friend, Perry Cleaveland. Perry is an awesome mandolin and fiddle player, and he adds a lot to our sound. I think you will enjoy him. Details for this show are at the end of this post. Hope you can make it!

As always, thanks for supporting original music! Connie Deming put on an awesome show at the “Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room” concert in May. Siobhan will have a video of one of Connie’s songs from that show ready for my next update in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I just want to give you a little introduction to Bonnie Abrams, the songwriter who will be performing at the next concert at Buffalo Bill’s on June 19. Bonnie will be accompanied by the legendary Allen Hopkins, a multi talented instrumentalist and folk singer who has entertained the Rochester area for years. Bonnie writes and performs her own songs AND she sings everything from choral music to Broadway show tunes. As "Voice of the Second Generation", Bonnie has performed programs of song and narration from the European Jewish experience at multi-cultural celebrations and Holocaust Commemorations. With Allen Hopkins, who has played bluegrass, blues, Celtic music and even Stephen Foster ballads on his three dozen acoustic instruments, Bonnie’s versatility is complete. Time spent with Bonnie and Allen is a musical gift - the audience will laugh, clap, sing along, and maybe
Even shed a tear.

For those of you who follow us at Rio Tomatlan, we’d like to give you an update. Rio sustained a fire in late May. The restaurant suffered a great deal of damage, and it will most likely be reopening sometime in July. Our show in June has been canceled, but please check back to see if our July show will be a go.

Well, have to go for now. Below is a list of our dates for June. Hope to catch you at a show! Take care!

All the best,
Siobhan and Frank
