Each CD contains songs of the performers who appeared during that season. The requested donation for each CD is $10, and the proceeds go to the performers who are playing on the night of the donation. The CDs have gotten good reviews, and we hope they get passed around to let others know about the great talent we have appearing at this venue.

The concerts take place on the first and third Thursdays of every month in the side room of Buffalo Bill’s Family Restaurant and Taproom, 19 Main Street, Shortsville, NY. The show runs from 7 to 9 PM. To learn more about Buffalo Bill’s, check out their site right here:

THE FATHER/DAUGHTER DANCE

Only played three songs this weekend, but Oh what a treat it was! I met Katie Hastings and her family when she was thirteen. She is thirty now, and over the years Siobhan and I have become quite close to her family and her. About a month ago, she emailed me and asked Siobhan and me to play the father/daughter dance at her wedding. When she went off to college, her father secretly left behind in her dorm room a copy of the lyrics to “Forever Young.” She decided this would be their father/daughter dance. However, instead of a recording of Bob Dylan or Rod Stewart, she wanted to surprise her dad by having Siobhan and me play the song for them. Well, her surprise worked. Jim, her dad, not known for displaying his emotions, was blown away, and I was glad Siobhan and I were able to be the catalysts. Originally scheduled to only play “Forever Young,” we were asked to come back later in the evening to play two of our songs, favorites of the Hastings family. Jim and Margie, Katie’s parents, were celebrating their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary the next day; so, we played “Seasons with You,” one of Margie’s favorites. We followed it up with “When You Were Cute and I Had All My Hair,” a history of the Hastings family, and probably a history of many contemporary families in America. Much thanks to Katie and Matt for including us in their special day!

In reflecting, we will probably never play a father/daughter dance again, but it got me to thinking about all the various ways we have brought joy to the lives of people through music. We are so grateful to be able to do this, and we hope we can continue to do it for a long time. We are also grateful for all the wonderful friends we have met through music. Thanks for being in our lives. You’re the best!

WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE STARS ALIGN

Sometimes the stars align, and magic occurs with music. Back in the 1980s, I played music at Gilhooley’s, a bar in East Rochester. Dan McManus, a class act when it comes to bar owners, was the owner, and Siobhan and I often reminisce about the great times we had working for Dan.

Well, yesterday, when we went to set up our equipment at The Timber Creek for our monthly happy hour, Dan and Al, Dan’s long-time side kick, were sitting at the bar. We hadn’t seen Dan in years, and it seemed like yesterday when we started talking. Dan and Al called their wives and several friends, and soon a group descended on The Timber Creek for our happy hour. From the first song, we engaged in a sing-along of some of the old favorites from the Gilhooley days, and the magic in the air brought me to that great high that music often brings. Music is just like fishing. Most of the time, you catch a lot of sunfish, but every once in awhile, a big lake trout comes along, and it’s a blast reeling it in.

Thanks to Dan, Bonnie, Al, Linda, and their friends for making this Timber Creek happy hour a memorable one. Thanks to Susie and Hillbilly for giving us this neat little spot to play our music. Thanks to Jill for taking good care of our friends who came to the Timber Creek. Thanks for supporting our music and hope you all have a great weekend!

THE FENNELLY FAMILY PICNIC

I love all kinds of venues, and one of the ones that gets little public exposure is the backyard family picnic. Siobhan and I have done several over the years, and some of the most memorable ones were the Crudele Fish Party, the Otto Family Picnic, and the Yarger Memorial Golf Scramble. In fact, the Crudele Fish Party inspired the writing of "Home Town." For the past several years, Siobhan and I have played the Fennelly Family Picnic, a beautiful event just a little south of Canandaigua. Most family events follow a certain format, and yesterday was no exception. After arriving at the Fennelly Homestead and catching up on some news, we started up our tunes at about 3 PM. We played until Maryann and Erin’s delicious food was ready, and we all delighted in their salads, mac and cheese, burgers, and hot dogs. Following dinner, the best part of this event occurred for me. We gathered around in a circle, as we always do, and shared stories well into the evening. I love listening to the voices of people telling their stories because they always give me a new perspective on life with regards to empathy and compassion, something we all need to develop. Much thanks to the Fennelly Family for having us become part of their family! Hope there are many more Fennelly events!

Today it’s Fennelly Fest, a great family picnic, and tomorrow it’s playin’ tunes as we sit by the dock of the bay at the Braddock Bay Tavern and Grill! Check out for more details about these shows! Thanks for supporting our music and have a great weekend!
