MEYER AND MCGUIRE: NEWS AND MUSIC SCHEDULE

Hi,

Hope all of you are doing well! Here’s what I have for you this month.

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to my Songwriter’s Notes, Lyrics, and Music.

Our last open mic on July 18 at Brew and Brats at Arbor Hill, an eatery and entertainment center behind the Arbor Hill Winery & Grapery was another great time! Special thanks to Jack Jones, Fran Cary, and Harry Lancaster for being part of this open mic! The highlight of the evening for Siobhan and me was closing out the night with Jack Jones and Fran Cary on stage with us! It was another magic moment at Brew and Brats! Our next open mic will be on September 12. So, mark your calendar! In the meantime, we will be doing a regular show at Brew and Brats on August 9. Details for this show are at the end of this message. Whether we are running an open mic or playing a regular show, Brew and Brats is always a good time! Hope you can Join Siobhan and me on August 9!

As always, thanks for supporting original music! Jed Curran and Steve Piper put on a great show at the “Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room” concert in July. Siobhan will have a video of one of Jed’s songs from that show ready for my next update in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I just want to give you a little introduction to Steve Piper, the songwriter who will be performing at the next concert at Buffalo Bill’s on August 21. Steve, who accompanied Jed Curran with some great licks from his guitar in last month’s show, will be doing a solo show of his original music. Here is a video of Steve doing “This House,” at his show in the “Side Room” at Buffalo Bill’s in 2012. Here is a video of Steve doing “It Never Gets Old” his show in the “Side Room” at Buffalo Bill’s in 2013.

In addition to being a great songwriter and guitar player, Steve is a terrific photographer and artist. To learn more about him, click here. Hope you can join us for the show!

For those of you who follow us at Rio Tomatlan, we’d like to give you an update. Rio sustained a fire in late May. The restaurant suffered a great deal of damage, and Rio will be reopening at its new location in Canandaigua at 106 Bemix Street, the previous site of the Lumber Yard. Before Rio reopens, however, the old Lumber Yard will need some major renovation, and the new Rio will most likely not open until this fall. On Sunday, August 10, Bill and Robin Mallwitz, the owners of Buffalo Bill’s in Shortsville, will open their door to Rafael Guevara, the owner of Rio Tomatlan, and his staff so that they can hold a benefit to help the workers at Rio. Siobhan and I will be supplying the music for this event. Rafael and his staff will take over the kitchen at Buffalo Bill’s and be cooking up some of your favorite Mexican dishes. The bartenders will be bartenders from Rio Tomatlan. This event will give you a chance to catch up with the folks at Rio! Tickets for this event are on sale at Buffalo Bill’s. Call Buffalo Bill’s at (585) 2894104 for more information.

Well, have to go for now. Below is a list of our dates for August. Hope to catch you at a show! Take care!

All the best,
Siobhan and Frank

"Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room" Presents Jed Curran and Steve Piper

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to my Songwriter’s Notes, Lyrics, and Music.

On Thursday, 7/17, Jed Curran and Steve Piper will be our performers in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. Jed will be there to share his stories and songs, and he will be accompanied by the legendary Steve Piper, a terrific guitar player with a sense of humor second to none. Here is a little quote from Jed regarding his songwriting, “I write to heal myself, fuel my personal growth and connect with my fellow man. I love to find song and poetry concealed in the mundane everyday experiences.” Here is a video of Jed doing one of his songs, “My Name Is Peter Biss,” at his show in the “Side Room” at Buffalo Bill’s in December of 2012.

To learn more about Jed, click here.
To learn more about Steve, click here.
Hope you can join us!

The concert is free, but we do ask for donations to support our performers. Siobhan has created two CDs, one for each of our two seasons. Each CD contains songs of the performers who appeared during that season. The requested donation for each CD is $10, and the proceeds go to the performers who are playing on the night of the donation. The CDs have gotten good reviews, and we hope they get passed around to let others know about the great talent we have appearing at this venue.

The concert takes place on the third Thursday of every month in the side room of Buffalo Bill’s Family Restaurant and Taproom, 19 Main Street, Shortsville, NY. The show runs from 7 to 9 PM. To learn more about Buffalo Bill’s, check out their site right here:
Buffalo Bill’s Family Restaurant and Taproom

Bonnie Abrams and Allen Hopkins were our guests in June. To give you a feel of the setting of these concerts, here is a video of the duo doing one of Bonnie’s songs, ”Rainforest Crunch.”

If you would like to see videos of the other performers who have taken the stage at “Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room” concerts, check out this link:

Our last open mic on May 10 at Brew and Brats at Arbor Hill, an eatery and entertainment center behind the Arbor Hill Winery & Grapery was another great time! We are going to do it again on July 18. Details for this open mic are at the end of this post. In June, we did a regular show at Brew and Brats with our good friend Perry Cleaveland, a great mandolin and fiddle player. The weather was beautiful, the music was grand, and the evening was a magical one. The best part for me was catching up with so many old friends. So, whether we are running an open mic or playing a regular show, Brew and Brats is always a good time! Siobhan and I will be there on July 18 to get the show started. If you sing or play an instrument, come on out and be part of the show. If you just want to come and listen, that’s OK too. Either way, you’ll have a blast!

As always, thanks for supporting original music! Bonnie Abrams and Allen Hopkins put on an awesome show at the “Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room” concert in June.
