SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS BONNIE ABRAMS AND ALLEN HOPKINS

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "Caught in the Middle," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 7/16, Bonnie Abrams and Allen Hopkins will be our performers in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. Bonnie writes and performs her own songs AND she sings everything from choral music to Broadway show tunes. As "Voice of the Second Generation", Bonnie has performed programs of song and narration from the European Jewish experience at multi-cultural celebrations and Holocaust Commemorations. With Allen Hopkins, who has played bluegrass, blues, Celtic music, and even Stephen Foster ballads on his three dozen acoustic instruments, Bonnie’s versatility is complete. Time spent with Bonnie and Allen is a musical gift. The audience will laugh, clap, sing along, and maybe Even shed a tear.

Here are Bonnie and Allen at a
previous show in the Side Room doing "Rainforest Crunch," one of Bonnie's original songs. Enjoy!

To learn more about Bonnie, click
here.
To learn more about Allen, click here. Hope you can join us for the show!

The concert is free, but we do ask for donations to support our performers. Siobhan has created three CDs, one for each of our three seasons. Each CD contains songs of the performers who appeared during that season. The requested donation for each CD is $10, and the proceeds go to the performers who are playing on the night of the donation. The CDs have gotten good reviews, and we hope they get passed around to let others know about the great talent we have appearing at this venue.

The concerts takes place on the first and third Thursdays of every month in the side room of Buffalo Bill’s Family Restaurant and Taproom, 19 Main Street, Shortsville, NY. The show runs from 7 to 9 PM. To learn more about Buffalo Bill’s, check out their site right here:

SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM PRESENTS JIM CLARE, PERRY CLEAVELAND, AND TAYLOR PIE

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. On Thursday, 6/18, Jim Clare will be our guest performer at the “Singer/Songwriters in the Side Room” concert series. Jim’s sense of humor is second to none, and it, along with his self-deprecating manner, really draws his audience to him. For this show, Jim will have Perry Cleaveland and Taylor Pie joining him. Perry (mandolin, fiddle, and vocals), like Jim, is a down-to-earth guy who really knows how to have fun with an audience. Taylor, a singer/songwriter friend of Jim’s from Nashville, is doing a little tour in the Finger Lakes Region, and this is one of her stops. Her beautiful songs and genuine nature should be a nice addition to the mix. I’m sure the three will create a delightful evening! If you have the time, check out these videos of Taylor and Jim doing their original material.

"SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM" PRESENTS CONNIE DEMING

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "Leavin’ All Our Troubles Far Behind," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 6/4, Connie Deming will be our performer in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. Siobhan and I have followed Connie’s music career from somewhat of a distance over the years, first seeing her at McGinnity’s way back in the 1970s. She has played in many places, and quite often, you will find her at the Little Theater Café in Rochester on Saturday nights. Connie has done a couple of shows for us in the “Side Room,” and they were simply outstanding. With her acoustic guitar, awesome voice, and powerful, thought-provoking lyrics she captivates her audience. Her heart-warming stories, injected with just the right amount of humor, put her listeners at ease, and it feels like you are sitting with a friend in your living room. Since her last show in the “Side Room,” she has released a new recording, Into the Blue, and you can expect to hear some of these terrific new songs in her upcoming show. Here’s a video of Connie from a previous show at Buffalo Bill’s. Enjoy!

"SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM" PRESENTS PAUL SWIATEK AND PERRY CLEAVELAND

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "Crystals," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 5/21, Paul Swiatek and Perry Cleaveland will be our performers in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. If you don’t know either of these guys, here’s a bit of info I snatched from the web.
Paul:
“I have been playing music since I was in elementary school. Singing, banjo and guitar playing helped me earn money for college. Music is one of the great joys in life that we are able to experience. With a little know how and practice, you can participate in this lifelong creative way of life. Check out my menu of services that lists the instruments and topics that I teach

1) DISMANTLING THE "I CAN'T PLAY AN INSTRUMENT" BELIEF SYSTEM VIA THE MOUNTAIN DULCIMER- I love working with children and adults who believe that they are not "musical"or "talented". If you sit down with one of my mountain dulcimers, I promise that you will be playing a song and smiling within fifteen minutes. There are many people who have been taught negative, restrictive beliefs that have kept them from even trying to play an instrument. If you are one of these people, I invite you to contact me and move past this mental lock. Music is for everyone, no exceptions!
2) HOW TO PLAY THE ACOUSTIC FOLK GUITAR
3) HOW TO PLAY BLUEGRASS STYLE GUITAR
4) HOW TO PLAY FINGER PICKING STYLE GUITAR
5) HOW TO PLAY THE FIVE STRING BANJO
6) HOW TO PLAY THE MOUNTAIN DULCIMER
7) HOW TO PLAY HARMONICA
8) HOW TO BUILD A MOUNTAIN DULCIMER
9) BASIC MULTI TRACK SOUND RECORDING
10) SONGWRITING FOR THE BEGINNER-INSTRUMENTALS
11) SONGWRITING FOR THE BEGINNER-VOCALS
12) WORKSHOP: "CONSORTING"- MAKING MUSIC WITH NO TALENT REQUIRED!
13) WORKSHOP: HOW TO PLAY THE MOUNTAIN DULCIMER.
14) If you are an artist who is interested in deepening your emotional awareness and how it connects to your work, let's talk. Individual one hour counseling sessions are available at my office on 1580 Elmwood Avenue.”

Perry:
“He is a SAMMY Award winning mandolinist who also adds lead and harmony vocals, fiddle, lead guitar and clawhammer banjo. Born in Louisville, Kentucky Perry emigrated to Syracuse, N.Y. and grew up in a household that hosted many bluegrass luminaries during his formative years. In his High School years, and continuing later, he began playing in a number of New York State Bluegrass bands including: Hard Times, Pleasant Valley, Bristol Mountain Bluegrass, Rosewood, John Rossbach & Chestnut Grove, The McCarthy Paisley Band, and Lost Time. He has performed for festivals, colleges, clubs, private parties, corporate events, arts centers, schools, town concerts, PBS/NPR affiliates: WCNY, & WXXI, and New York State Council on the Arts-sponsored events, including Arts in Education series’ under the auspices of Young Audiences of Rochester.
His innovative mandolin playing keeps him in demand as a recording session player throughout New York State having played on projects by many regional Bluegrass, Old Timey and Folk artists such as: Joe Davoli, Maria Gillard, John Cadley, Ted Lambert, John Stevens, Andrew and Noah Van Norstrand, Jim Clare, Northwater, The Atkinson Family, Lisa Bigwood, Rebecca Colleen & the Chore Lads, Meyer & McGuire Brian Coughlin, and those bands as previously listed. Perry recently shared a CD release with the Rochester's Impressario of 'Songwriters in the Round', Brian Coughlin, and, as well, is featured on a new project from Meyer & McGuire. He is currently working on a project of his own original melodies and musings.”

"SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN THE SIDE ROOM" PRESENTS SCOTT REGAN

Hi,

This blog started out giving you posts of the songwriter’s notes, lyrics, and music for my original songs. As with many things, it has gone in new directions. So, if you just started reading my post and are interested in my original material, here is a link to "The Circle Comes Around Again," one of my original songs. You can read about the song’s history, review the lyrics, and listen to the song. If you want to add the song to your playlist, you can download it at Amazon or iTunes.

On Thursday, 5/7, Scott Regan will be our performer in the “Side room” at Buffalo Bill’s. If you don’t know him, here’s a bit of info I snatched from the web. Hope it entices you to come to the show!
“Since 2004 Scott Regan has been introducing listeners to an eclectic mix of rock, folk, and acoustic music weekdays on Open Tunings. A fan of all kinds of music and strong supporter of the local music scene, Scott often invites local musicians and bands traveling through Rochester and the Finger Lakes area in studio to perform and share stories about their work. In 2012 Open Tunings was voted best radio program by Rochester’s City Newspaper.
Scott is also a musician and released his first solo album Autumn Moon in 2013. He is a member of Watkins and the Rapiers, an Americana music band with a folk beat. They mostly play original music written by the band’s four songwriters – of which Scott is one. In the band Scott plays guitar and percussion, and sings. He’s also an artist and recently released a book of sketches and haiku with friend Jeff Spevak of the Democrat and Chronicle called Jazz Lines.”

Perry Cleaveland, also known as the “House Band” in the “Side Room,” will be backing up Scott with some mandolin and fiddle.

Want a feel for how these two will sound together? Here is a video of them doing one of Scott’s songs, “Blue Blue Planet.”
