I played my first private event in Canandaigua in the summer
of 1974 in the living room of Betty
Hennihan, a well-respected primary school teacher in the Canandaigua City
School District. The house, located on
Gibson Street, is now owned by Sharon
and Jeff Trumbull, Betty’s daughter and son-in-law. Needless to say, I had an absolute blast
playing at Betty’s gathering. Fast
forward to 2022, forty eight years later, and I am still playing private events
around here, but now it’s with my partner of forty years, Siobhan, making these
private events even sweeter. For Siobhan
and me, our music has been and always will be
just a vehicle we use to connect with people and have fun with them. Our goal is to try to add a special touch to
each event we play. I only bring this up
because we are relaxing on this beautiful 4th of July day after
playing for two great parties over this beautiful 4th of July
weekend.
First, a big thanks to Rita and Richard Deboerdere for
having us play at their twelfth anniversary party on Saturday. It was great connecting with them and their family
and friends again. As always, the food was delicious, and the shared
stories were, as usual, quite
entertaining. Rita and Richard, wishing
the two of you many more years of health and happiness!
On Sunday, Perry Cleaveland joined us for the Seneca Yacht
Club’s annual 4th of July party.
We have played this event for many years, and it’s always a blast. The pandemic prevented us from playing there
for the past two years; so, the return this year made playing for the event
that much sweeter. A big thanks to all
the members of the club for your warm welcome, enthusiastic response to our
music, and your genuine compliments throughout the evening. A big thanks, as always, to Perry Cleaveland
for joining us and, once again, taking our show to a higher level. A big thanks to Chrissy West for connecting
us with the club so many years ago and giving us the opportunity to meet up
with so many wonderful people.
Many of you reading this have had us play at some private event for you over these past forty eight years; so, thanks again for letting us into your lives. Siobhan and I were lucky to find each other, and we were even luckier to be able to use guitars to make a difference in the lives of people. For this, we are forever grateful. Hope you and your family and friends had a terrific 4th of July weekend
